# What is adaptive learning?

> Adaptive learning adjusts what each student sees next to how they're doing. Here's how it works, what AI adds, and what to watch out for.

Learn · Glossary

Adaptive learning is teaching that adjusts what each student does next (the difficulty, the topic, the pace) based on how they're doing, so each student gets a path that fits.

## What adapts

- Difficulty of the next question
- Which topic comes next
- How much help is given
- How often old topics come back

## What to watch out for

Adaptation needs good data and a teacher in the loop. A system that only adapts difficulty can keep a student stuck on easy work; the best ones show teachers why a student is on a path.

## Questions
