# What is continuous assessment?

> Continuous assessment judges learning through the year, from homework, tests and projects, not one final exam. Here's how it works and what it takes.

Learn · Glossary

Continuous assessment judges a student's learning across the year, through homework, class tests, projects and practicals, rather than through a single final exam. In India it's often called CCE (continuous and comprehensive evaluation).

## What it takes

- Many small assessments, marked quickly
- Clear rubrics so marks mean the same across teachers
- Records kept per student, per assessment
- Results that roll up into reports

## The marking problem

Continuous assessment multiplies marking. AI marking with teacher review is what makes it workable for large classes.

## Questions

**Is continuous assessment better than final exams?**

It gives a fuller picture and quicker feedback; most systems use both.

**Does it count toward final results?**

In many systems, yes: school-based assessment often counts.
