What is blended learning?
Definition
Blended learning mixes in-person teaching with online learning, so students learn part of the time with a teacher in the room and part of the time online, often at their own pace.
Common models
- Flipped classroom
- Learn the idea at home, practise it in class.
- Station rotation
- Groups rotate between teacher time, online work and practice.
- Flex
- Mostly online, with teachers on hand.
What makes it work
The online part has to teach, not just play videos. A tutor that asks questions and a teacher who can see progress make the difference.
Questions
- Is blended learning the same as hybrid?
- Close. Hybrid often means some students are remote at the same time.
- Does it need special tools?
- An LMS for the class and a good online practice or tutoring tool.
