What is continuous assessment?
Definition
Continuous assessment judges a student's learning across the year, through homework, class tests, projects and practicals, rather than through a single final exam. In India it's often called CCE (continuous and comprehensive evaluation).
What it takes
- Many small assessments, marked quickly
- Clear rubrics so marks mean the same across teachers
- Records kept per student, per assessment
- Results that roll up into reports
The marking problem
Continuous assessment multiplies marking. AI marking with teacher review is what makes it workable for large classes.
Questions
- Is continuous assessment better than final exams?
- It gives a fuller picture and quicker feedback; most systems use both.
- Does it count toward final results?
- In many systems, yes: school-based assessment often counts.
