What is adaptive learning?
Definition
Adaptive learning is teaching that adjusts what each student does next (the difficulty, the topic, the pace) based on how they're doing, so each student gets a path that fits.
What adapts
- Difficulty of the next question
- Which topic comes next
- How much help is given
- How often old topics come back
What to watch out for
Adaptation needs good data and a teacher in the loop. A system that only adapts difficulty can keep a student stuck on easy work; the best ones show teachers why a student is on a path.
