What is Bloom's taxonomy?
Definition
Bloom's taxonomy is a way of sorting thinking skills into levels. The revised version has six: remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate and create.
The six levels
- Remember
- Recall facts: "State Newton's second law."
- Understand
- Explain: "Why does a heavier truck need more force?"
- Apply
- Use it: "Find the force on a 2 kg mass at 3 m/s²."
- Analyse
- Break it down: "Which forces act on the car?"
- Evaluate
- Judge: "Which design stops faster, and why?"
- Create
- Make something new: "Design an experiment to test it."
Questions
- Why does it matter for exams?
- A paper that only tests remembering misses most of what students learned.
- Can papers be balanced by level?
- Yes, with a blueprint.
