What is a question bank?
Definition
A question bank is a store of exam questions, each tagged by topic, difficulty, marks and type, that teachers or exam bodies draw on to build papers and practice sets.
What makes a good bank
- Every question tagged by topic, skill and difficulty
- Mark schemes stored with the questions
- Usage tracked, so questions aren't over-exposed
- Reviewed and approved before use
Its limits, and AI
A fixed bank wears out: students remember questions. AI can draft fresh questions in the same style, which people then review, so the bank keeps growing.
Questions
- How big should a bank be?
- Big enough that papers don't repeat. Several times the questions you'll use in a year is a common aim.
- Can AI write bank questions?
- It can draft them; people should approve them.
