What is spaced repetition?

Definition

Spaced repetition is reviewing material at growing intervals, each one timed for just before you'd forget, so it moves into long-term memory with less total study time.

How it works

You review a card today, again in a few days, then in a week, then a month. Each successful recall pushes the next review further out; a miss brings it back sooner.

Using it for exams

  • Make cards from your own lessons and mistakes
  • Review a little every day instead of cramming
  • Let the schedule decide what's due

Questions

Is it the same as flashcards?
Flashcards are the format; spaced repetition is the schedule.
