What is vocational training?
Definition
Vocational training teaches the practical skills for a particular job or trade, such as healthcare assistant, electrician, technician or safety officer, mostly by doing the work under guidance.
How it works
- Short theory, then supervised practice
- Assessment of what people can do, not just what they know
- Often linked to a certificate or licence from an awarding body
What institutes need
Instructors' time should go to the workshop. That means attendance, grading and records need to run in the background.
Questions
- Is vocational training the same as TVET?
- TVET (technical and vocational education and training) is the wider term used by governments and UNESCO.
- Can vocational training be online?
- Theory can; practice usually needs hands-on time.
